August 3rd Message from Mrs. Brown

Hello, families of John Colemon Elementary School.  This is Mrs.  Brown, principal of JCE.

This message contains a lot of information.  I will also be posting this on Class Dojo and the JCE webpage.

Just a reminder that the Rutherford County Board of Education voted to return in person on Aug. 10 with a distance learning option for parents who select that for their child.

Traditional Students (in-person students)

Aug. 10 will be a 2 1/2 hour day for students in grades 1-5.  The time for students on Aug. 10 is 7:30-10:00.  This day will look different than it has in previous years.  In the past, parents have accompanied children to complete the registration paperwork.  For the safety of all, we can’t allow parents in the building.  We hope you know that we love parents being in our building, but unfortunately due to COVID, we can’t allow that at this time. We encourage everyone to register online or pick up a paper packet outside the front office any day this week before Friday. JCE will have a Registration Day on campus outside the front office from 8-noon on Friday, August 7th. You may complete the paperwork on site if you have not already done so. You will need your proof of residency when registering.  If you don’t know your Skyward login, reach out to our front office at [email protected] or [email protected].  Below is the link for Skyward.

Aug.11- 14 are 3 hour and 15 minutes days for students in grades 1-5.  JCE students in grades 1-5 will attend from 7:30-10:45 on these days.  August 17 is the first full day for students in grades 1-5.

Distance Learning Students:

Parents who are choosing distance learning, please make note of the following:

Your child will still need to be registered in Skyward, or you may complete a paper packet located outside our front office before Friday.

Incoming kindergarten students who have completed the registration process should be receiving a call to schedule your kindergarten screening soon.   Kindergarten teachers will provide more information once your child completes the kindergarten screening.

Thanks so much for your continued partnership with JCE.  We truly appreciate you.  Thanks also for your patience as we navigate these times.  We are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all of our students.  I have posted the re-opening plan specific to JCE on our school website at jcs.rcschools.net.  In accordance with RCS Board policy, masks will be required for all. Thank you and have a great day!
